Incorporating 3D Printing into Structural Heart Disease Procedure, Silicone Pulse Oximeter, COVID Swabs in Children

In this week’s issue of “From Academia”, we share with you three articles detailing the development of 3D printed devices to aid structure heart disease procedures, wearable pulse oximeters, and nasal swabs for children. The first article demonstrates and discusses the advantages of 3D printing, computational modeling, and artificial intelligence (AI) for structural heart disease (SHD) procedures including transcatheter structural heart interventions. The second article demonstrates the application of freeform reversible embedding (FRE) 3D printing techniques to fabricate patient-specific wearable devices for measuring real-time heart rate and blood oxygenation. The third article demonstrates the design and development of a nasopharyngeal swab for children utilizing CT scan data and 3D printing. “From Academia” features recent, relevant, close to commercialization academic publications. Subjects include but are not limited to healthcare 3D printing, 3D bioprinting, and related emerging technologies.
