Our Mission

To invent and foster practical solutions that restores or enhances the health of individuals.

Our Vision

The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation envisions a world where personalized medicine is available to all. Every person is unique with individual challenges to optimal health, from genetic predisposition to disease to socioeconomic barriers to care. We strive to address those challenges to bridge the gap between sickness and wellness.

The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation aims to tackle the biggest problems in health. We are focused on solving problems in new ways, developing ‘personalized’ solutions, prototyping tangible solutions, and bringing our innovation to the real-world.

In Pursuit Of Personalized Solutions

We recognize that each individual is unique.  The effort to diagnose, treat and prevent disease is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor.  It requires precision and personalization.

Researchers are making efforts to bringing precision medicine to fruition by collecting omic, environmental, and lifestyle data.  Omics, the umbrella term used to describe the fields of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and other biological sciences that end with –omics, aims to comprehensively understand the cause of disease.  Data from omic studies may increase our understanding of how individual variability affects the metabolism of drugs, the effectiveness of treatments, and the risks of disease development.

The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation will use these omics-driven insights to drive the engineering of precise and personalized solutions.  Our goal is to tailor solutions that account for individual variability in a person’s genetic makeup, environment, and lifestyle.

How We Do It

At the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation, our multidisciplinary teams work as part of a unique convergence ecosystem to quickly translate scientific knowledge into real-world solutions in the clinic.  We focus on the problem first and work our way back to the solution.  Scientists, clinicians, and engineers work in close collaboration to tackle the problem and rapidly build prototypes.  We involve business development and technology transfer experts early on to adapt our innovations for immediate use.
