Dental 3D Printing 2024: What’s New (Now On-Demand) (Premium)
Since 2017, dental 3D printing has been an essential focus for the 3D printing world. The dream scenario of every dental practice having a “chair-side” mini factory is still the end goal. But like every other vertical, transforming dentistry is nuanced. From a lack of biocompatible materials to impractically expensive capital requirements, this dream has yet to be realized. However, as an industry observer, we are witnessing slow but steady progress. As Dr. Johnson, one of our speakers, mentioned in his interview, this reality is closer now than ever, with improvements taking place in every aspect of this transformation. Almost every newsletter we published would include one or two new dental 3D printing materials. From a clinical perspective, Every dental specialty (endodontists, implantologists, prosthodontists, orthodontists, etc) has participated in at least one 3DHEALS dental event. Some even have their startups. The willingness to innovate and change is evident.

Albert Mangas Estany
Albert Mangas Estany was born in Solsona in 1980, at the age of 40, he is the Director of Engineering and Operations at the Avinent Implant System Company, a company specialized in the manufacturing of medical devices located in Santpedor. During his career since 2006 in that company he was working in different departments from now, he was on the product development, technical support, serial and custom production so always he was close to the end user understanding and helping them on the technical point of view. Working on that company he understood and contribute on the innovations on the digital and medical sector more specific on dental and maxillofacial business. He has knowledge on the manufacturing capabilities, substrate or additive manufactories technologies, he also knows about product development end to end since identify ideas to convert them in a real product working together with other departments to release them around the world.
Ahmed Adel
My background is mechatronics & robotics, I travelled 30% of the world learning how 3D printing could impact people life, and I do scuba & sky diving. I have been to the additive manufacturing space for 10 years and recently co-founded Zylo3D to bring 3D printers to the retail business of dental offices.
Dr. Andrew C. Johnson
Dr. Andrew C. Johnson completed his general dental and prosthodontic training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and now practices in Northwest Arkansas. Along with his specialist certificate, Dr. Johnson earned a post-doctoral master’s degree in dental science researching CAD/CAM restorative techniques and emerging digital dental materials. As a board-certified prosthodontist and digital denture technician, his expertise centers around complex dental implant and prosthetic reconstruction, start to finish—from three-dimensional imaging, virtual treatment planning and computer-guided and robotic surgery, to digital prosthesis design, production workflow and long-term complication management. However, now that he devotes equal time to utilizing, teaching, and directly developing next generation dental technologies, his broader professional interests include process scaling, provider calibration, and dental mindset disruption.
Mike Lawrenchuk
Mike Lawrenchuk is a Sr Business Development Manager at Materialise responsible for supporting the North American medical device industry. For nearly 20 years, he has helped companies in the dental industry implement patient-specific solutions and additive manufacturing processes. Mike also supports the cranial maxillofacial and orthopedic markets in a similar capacity. His recent focus has been on utilizing AI techniques and design automation to help groups streamline their pre-operative planning and production workflows. Mike is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a BSE and MSE in Biomedical Engineering.
Conrad Hocke
Conrad Hocke, Product Specialist at Relu. Conrad studied dentistry for four years before pivoting to software development. He completed his degree in Business Information Systems in Goettingen, Germany. Last year, he joined Relu to pursue his passion for Artificial Intelligence in health care.
