Biocompatible Injectable Hydrogels
A 3D cell culture allows cells to grow in all directions similar to how they would in vivo. Unlike 2D environment, it leads to more predictive models for research, drug screening or regenerative medicine applications. In this context, biocompatible injectable hydrogels are suitable candidates.
We developed Innovgel, a biocompatible injectable hydrogel based on chemically modified hyaluronic acid (HA). Innovgel is produced by simply mixing two solutions of modified HA partners in physiological conditions. The dynamic covalent character of crosslink junctions in the hydrogel network makes it malleable, able to adapt to mechanical constraints (thereby injectable) and to self-heal almost instantly.
INNOVGEL is a smart platform that can be used in multiple applications and is suitable for large-scale production. Its originality lies in the process of its formation which makes it easily customizable and modifiable according to the targeted applications.
INNOVGEL is currently tested for the 3D cell culture of several cells: Keratinocyte, fibroblasts, mesenchymal stem cell, endothelial cells, chondrocytes and neural stem cells. INNOVGEL is available for tests.
Innovgel offers the possibility to biofabricate in vitro test platforms for 3D cell culture that may be applied in vivo. Secondly, its injectable character offers the possibility to use it as a printable scaffold for 3D bioprinting which may provide a way to produce model tissues and organs. Finally, its injectability, biocompatibility and degradability makes it an attractive candidate for cell-based therapy.
