Hephaestus emerged from an orthopedic meeting between Drs. Ney Peres and Luiz Fernando Michaelis at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein.
In talking about the ways of Orthopedics, the two found that they shared a passion for technology and a desire to improve orthopedic methods. The modular orthosis project (PetLock Orthosis®) was launched in January 2017 as a result of this meeting.
With limited time due to their careers, the two followed the project with the determination that it would come true as soon as possible.
The emergence of some technical problems in the project led them to contact an engineering professor who appointed Ronaldo Miranda, mechanical engineer, programmer and developer of 3D printing projects. Thus, Hephaestus was formed, with the motivation and determination to create technological advances in medicine. Hephaestus refers to the Greek God of metallurgy and technology, a mythological character with diverse stories about his origin. Described as a brilliant creator and developer, he created several mythological objects such as the Zeus Aegis and the “freestanding metal giants,” as mythology describes. Thus, at the suggestion of Dr. Luiz Fernando Michaelis and unanimously, the name of the company was defined.
